Hello! Nocturne here. I’m an aspiring writer and working professional living in the United States. I worked and lived in Shiga, Japan for five years. Now that I’m back home I want to continue to engage with the language and culture.

What is Gengakei?

About Genga
I grew up when anime and manga were really becoming popular in the United States. It was becoming easier to walk into a bookstore and pick up a manga or at the electronics store browse shelves of anime. Its really wild to think about how accessible it all is now.

Genga means “original art” and often refers to the key animation frames essentially.

わたしについて
こんにちは！ノクターンここにいる！。私はアメリカで若手社会人をやりながら、作家を目指してるんだ。日本の滋賀県で五年間に住んでいて働いていた。現在、私の出身に戻って日本の文化と言語を関わり続けたいだ。

原画系って何？

原画について
私がアメリカで日本のアニメと漫画は人気になった時に育った。本屋さんで入って漫画を買って安くなるか電気屋さんの棚でたくさんアニメを見ている。現在、あらゆるものがこんなに手に入りやすくなったなんて、本当にスゴイだ。

原画はアニメーションのオリジナルの絵というものだ。たいてい、マイン大切な場面の絵みたいだ。

About Kei
During my high school years everything “Kei” was really popular in the anime fan space. Visual Kei, Oshare-kei, etc were easy to find. Internet pages, youtube, the local Hottopic and comic conventions were all places where I could find posters, magazines, music and more for bands like L’Arc~en~Ciel, X-Japan, Dir En Grey and An Café.

“~Kei” as a suffix refers to classification of something. I have also seen it roughly translated as “style” (source Wikipedia )

系について
高校生の時、アメリカのアニメファンスぺスでは「系」のものはとても人気だった。例えば、ビジュアル系やお洒落系など簡単に見つけることができた。ウェブサイト、Youtube、HOTTOPICという店、コミコンのような場所でL’Arc~en~Ciel、X JAPAN、Dir En Grey、An Caféといったバンドのポスター、雑誌、音楽などを見つけることができた。

「～系」は何かの分類という接尾だ。私は「スタイル」の意味も見た。

This blog will focus on nostalgic Japanese anime, manga, music and popular culture. So I wanted a name that would reflect these topics. I also wanted a name that would be short and easy to remember. I felt this title really suited this purpose.

これは懐かしい日本のアニメ、漫画、音楽とポピュラーカルチャーの中心にしたブログだ。それで、このテーマを表す名前を欲しかったんだ。短く覚えやすい名前もうほしかった。このタイトル「原画系」はこの目的にてきしていると感じる。
